“The senior class had a special opportunity— a college essay writing workshop, run by Jen Fordham, the school's College Counselor. Spanning over the course of three hours, the 12th graders explored what it is to write an extraordinary college essay. Mrs. Fordham focused on the importance of vulnerability in the essay: how to show your true essence through words. She facilitated a safe space for all the seniors, where we practiced being open through activities including editing essays in groups, discussing our personal values, and sharing our own personal essay with a partner. She stressed careful choice of diction, introduced new essay formatting styles, and gave each girl personalized feedback on their writing. After the workshop, each girl shared what she had gained from the session, and profusely thanked Mrs. Fordham for her kindness and the amazing workshop she had put together.”
